So Marvel are making a teenage Jamie very happy with all of its superhero movies lately and due to Cineworld’s unlimited card I was able to not miss a beat the day both Captain America and X-Men were released.
Captain America: Civil War.
Captain America : Civil War was everything that I wanted from the next instalment in the Marvel universe film franchise. Stepping boldly into what is considered ‘phase three’ in the marvel plan this action filled movie ticks all the boxes when it comes to the superhero genre.
I did happen to go with someone who hadn’t seen the previous Captain America films so although they enjoyed it they found it a little hard as a standalone movie due to the reference to the previous films. But boo them for not seeing the other films 😉
Captain America is the driving force for this movie ( lucky the film was named after him ay), and his friendship to Bucky plays a bit part, but with that being said it is a great platform and showcase for other characters of the MCU.
Taking place after Avengers: Age of Ultron we see the Avengers pitted against each other when due to a recent superhero fuelled event that resulted in civilian casualties that in turn divides the team. The Sokovia accords are made and this means that every enhanced human will have to be registered and are then only able to go to action when deemed needed as decided by the 117 countries that have signed the accords.
In this film we see our favourite avengers in the form of Captain America, Iron Man, War Machines, The Black Widow, Hawkeye and who are then also joined by the newest additions – Falcon, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Ant Man and even Spider Man and Black Panther make an appearance and join the fight.
This film has everything that is needed for a good comic book action blockbuster with some great fights scenes ( even if it is our favourite heroes fighting each other ), witty humour and great visual effects.
There are multiple trailers and to be honest as soon as you read this you should run to the cinema.

The next stop on our Marvel movie train is…
Well the time had finally come. I feel like my entire cinema going life had been leading up to this moment – X-Men Apocalypse hits the cinema this May.
I don’t know what your excitement levels where? But mine were pretty high!
So in theory every X-men member in this movie has appeared in one form or another as there are so many previous films. But due to the events that took place in Days of Future Past the X-Men franchise have the whole story line to play with again now.
So what did I think?
I LOVED IT. But to be honest I would. It is a long one folks so make sure you go to the toilet beforehand. I say long but it’s roughly 2hrs and 25mins.
So the synopsis is that an ancient mutant Apocalypse, that was betrayed by his followers, awakes after being entomb for hundreds of years. He brings with him the threat of cleansing the world. He enlists the help of 4 horseman – Angel, Psylocke, Storm and Magneto. To stand against him we have the newly formed X-men Let by Mystique and it consists of Beast, Cyclops, Jean Gray, Nightcrawler with Professor Xavior and Moira MacTaggert thrown in too.
It is a tad slow to get to the action scenes but this is due to helping to build the narrative and story and when the action does take place it is well worth the wait.! One of the many reasons I enjoyed this movie is that the story focuses on several characters and therefor we get a great well rounded perspective of the movie and it’s almost as if there are multiple leading actors – yay for equality right. There are also so some great moments of humour – especially with Evan Peters Quicksilver and one or two surprises for fans of the X-Men franchise. The post credit scene was a little disappointing but overall this is a must see if you are a sci-fi or action film fan.
IMBD for X-Men Apocalypse.
