Ant Man. Starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, UK Release July 2015
Ant Man see’s Paul Rudd giving us a charming performance for one of the more unusually named and lesser known super hero comic characters. A great Marvel transitional movie paving the way for the developments within marvel universe. Ant Man still offers those superhero thrills albeit on a much smaller scale.
Dr Hank Pym ( Michael Douglas) is forced out of his own company by his former protege – DARREN CROSS ( Corey Stoll ). With Cross unearthing DR Pym’s heroic past and threaten society with it’s power, he is forced to take matters in his own hands by recruiting Scott Lang ( Rudd ) a master thief just released from Prison to become Ant Man. Armed with his suit that allows him to shrink to the size of an ant, posses superhuman strength and can control an army of ants, Rudd has to use his new skills and technology to foil Cross/Yellow Jackets plans.
Great humour throughout the movie and some great special effects, although I do believe the movie could have done with some more action. I am not sure if it was a strong enough film to entice every member of the audience. There was no witty banter from Robert Downey Jnr or the muscles of Liam Hemsworth to appeal to the none marvel fans. There was a lovely cheeky little cross over from another loved Avenger ( I won’t say as I don’t want to ruin it ),but this movie definitely paves the way forward for the next instalment into the Marvel World.
Giving is a good solid 3 movie punches.
