Jupiter Ascending. Starring Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean. UK Release date Febuary 2015
Being a Sci-fi action movie fan I was really looking forward to this movie. The trailer had all the makings of a great movie. Even the poster was fancy but the movie….. was a let down.
Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis) seems to be an ordinary Russian/American working class maid, when she is swept up into a intergalactic family feud and fight to claim ‘Earth’. Protected/Escorted by a genetically modified warrior Caine Wise ( Channing Tatum ) she travels across space to learn she is the reincarnation of the once powerful owner of Earth…
In theory it ticked a lot of boxes, action, special effects and an attractive cast but for some reason it didn’t seem to hit the mark. The Narrative wasn’t strong and neither was the acting.
The gravity boots were awesome, but not awesome enough to save the movie. I understand it is hard to condense complex story lines into a short 2 hour film but still. As the movie progresses elements and plots become clear but you have to stay very attentive to understand what was going on. Leaving the cinema I heard a lot of people mumbling about how they didn’t understand the movie or that it was not a good film.
I feel that they thought by adding some high profile names and special effects that they were on to a winner.
Sadly the trailer showcased the majority of the best parts and I feel if the movie had been a little longer to allow the story to come across clearer the movie could have been much better.
