Press Launch of An American In Paris

The international award winning show An American In Paris is hitting the West End in March 2017 and I was lucky enough to be invited along to the press launch this past week.

Such a great afternoon celebrating all things An American In Paris as we eagerly await its West End Debut.

Hosted by the elegant Darcey Bussell we had an intimate insight and sneaky behind the scenes look at the show. Joined by creatives, agents, performers and bloggers we set up shop at the Picturehouse Central  ( which on a side note is a fancy smancy cinema) to see what all the fuss was about. Met with a live accompanist we entered the auditorium hearing show tunes from the score.

The great man behind the show, the Choreographer and Director Christopher Wheeldon, shared with us the creative and casting process. Bussell and Wheeldon talked about how they had to find a cast of extremely talented dancers who could also sing and act while video clips of the rehearsal process where shown. We learnt about the history of the show and how it came to life.

Wheeldon whose career has gone from strength to strength was then met by some of the cast who gave us a preview of the show in the form of the song S’ wonderful performed by Haydn Oakley, David Seadon-Young, Ashley Day and Zoe Rainey.

For those of you who don’t know much about the show:

It is an Oscar winning MGM film, featuring many of George and Ira Gershwin’s most popular and timeless songs.

Jerry Mulligan is an American GI striving to make it as a painter in a city suddenly bursting with hope and possibility. Following a chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer named Lise, the streets of Paris become the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of war…

The show opens at the Dominion theatre in March. Their first performance being March 4th and opening night being March 21st. You can find out more about the show and how to purchase tickets here:

I wanted to thank London Theatre Bloggers for this amazing opportunity and you find out more about this wonderful team here. And here is a picture of some of the bloggers at the event, photo taken by the lovely Olivia fullsizerender
